The ghost hitchhiker of highway two in Puerto Rico

He was driving from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, to his home in Arecibo, on the night of November 20, 1982, when Abel Haiz Rassen, an Arab merchant who lives in Puerto Rico, crossed an area known as "The Chains". A bald man was standing by the side of the road hitchhiking. Haiz Rassen watched the man, who was about thirty-five years old and dressed in a gray shirt and brown jeans, and moved on.

But when he stopped at a red light at the next intersection, his car engine stalled. While trying to restart it again, he realized that the hitchhiker opened the door and got inside the car.

"My name is Roberto", said the man to the surprised Haiz Rassen. Would you be kind enough to take me to my house, in the urbanization "Alturas de Aguada"? For almost two months, I haven’t seen my wife Esperanza and my son.

Haiz Rassen refused, saying that his wife was waiting for him in Arecibo, but Roberto insisted. The driver tried to restart the car again, and this time it started suddenly.

He agreed to take Roberto to "El Nilo" restaurant. In the course of the short trip, the importune passenger warned him to drive carefully, not to drink and he asked Haiz Rassen to pray for him.

Haiz Rassen relieved stopped at the parking lot of the restaurant. Some who watched him closely saw him talking animatedly, apparently to himself. One asked him if he needed help.

"No", responded Haiz Rassen, "but this gentleman wants me to take him home".

He turned to his right to point to the passenger… but no one was there.
He was so impressed that he started to get sick. They called the police, and two officers, Alfredo Vega and Gilberto Castro, took him to a local hospital, where he related his strange story.

Skeptical, yet intrigued, the officers went to the urbanization and knocked on the door of the house where the driver said that Roberto had indicated. A woman opened the door carrying a small boy in her arms. When asked by the officers, she replied that her name was Esperanza and she was the widow of Roberto Valentin Carbo.

Her husband, who was quite bald, was wearing a gray shirt and brown jeans on October 6, 1982, when he died in an automobile accident, in the exact location of the road where Abel Haiz Rassen had seen him for the first time six weeks later…

Although there have been many unexplained sightings in the town of Lajas, the situation there has been hyped by the amount of lies and exaggeration by a group of so-called, "ufologists" who ignore other areas of Puerto Rico to promote tourism in Lajas. That was evident when my wife and my daughter confronted a terrifying experience in the town of Aguada with extraterrestrials and that group of charlatans refused our plea for help. Of course, if it happened in Lajas they would have jumped on the opportunity for fame and tourism for that town. Those hoaxes and lies were approved and sanctioned by the then mayor of that town who named route 303 "The extraterrestrial route". The idea of building an "UFOport" (ovnipuerto), “la llorona sightings" and the biggest hoax of them all, "that a UFO crashed there" all this could only be found in a science fiction novel.

The dancing alien

About me

Ufologist, criminal investigator, musician, artist and writer.

I worked 20 years for the New York City Department of Correction. First as a Correction Officer for 4 years, Captain for 12 years, and as a Deputy Warden for 4 years. As a law enforcement officer and supervisor, I have conducted countless of criminal investigations, some for unimaginable allegations.

On June of 2005, after my retirement, I moved to Puerto Rico with my family where my wife and my daughter faced extraordinary experiences with extraterrestrials. These alien encounters, subsequent abductions of my wife and the lack of help from so-called, "ufologists" here on the island, prompted me to become involved in the field of ufology and in the need to help others who have had similar experiences.
